Meet Chris Alvarado
I've been improvising for 30 years, and one thing has become clearer with every show I perform and every class I teach:
The best improv doesn't come from trying harder.
It comes from listening more deeply, slowing down, and trusting yourself.
That's the work I'm most interested in.
I trained at Second City, UCB, iO West, and The Clown School, but the classes I teach today aren't about recreating any one style. They're about helping you discover your own voice.
Whether you're brand new to improv or you've been performing for years, my goal is to help you feel more present, more connected to your scene partner, and more confident trusting your instincts.
I still perform regularly with Heyday, Pretty Pretty Pony, and The Live Direct Show, so I'm constantly bringing what I'm learning onstage back into the classroom.
Every class combines scene work, personalized feedback, and practical exercises designed to help you become a better listener, a stronger scene partner, and a more confident improviser.
"Working with Chris helped me rediscover the beauty of letting things happen organically and reacting deeply, without trying to control the scene."
— Sib Piquet, France
The classes are intentionally small so everyone gets individual attention, and over the years it's become something I'm incredibly proud of: a place where people can experiment, take risks, make mistakes, and grow alongside a supportive community.
When I'm not teaching or performing, you'll probably find me surfing, spending time with my wife Jessica and our dog Sonny, or thinking about improv far more than any reasonable person should.
I'd love to work with you. Join me in the studio!
